Q&A with Dustin Howard: Ed.S, Clark County Public Schools Superintendent
Q: In a few sentences, tell me about yourself.
A: "I've been happily married to my lovely wife Rachael of over 20 years. I am a father of two teenagers (boy and girl) that both attend our wonderful high school (George Rogers Clark). I am also a committed educational leader for our public schools as I am entering my second year as superintendent of schools here in Clark County. We have around 1,000 staff and over 5,200 students. I graduated from Center College in Danville Kentucky and was inspired to work with our students to change lives. My goal is to be a dream maker for our students, families, and community."
Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: "Energetic, hardworking, and passionate"
Q: We live in Winchester so I have to ask....are you an Ale 8 drinker?
A: "Yes"
Q: Are you a dog or cat person?
A: "Dog"
Q: What's your favorite season?
A: "Fall"
Q: How long have you lived in Winchester?
A: "My wife and I have lived in Winchester for over 20 years and intentionally bought our home to raise our kids in Winchester-Clark County!"
Q: What are you known for around town?
A: "At this point, I am known for being the Clark County Public Schools Superintendent that is laser focused on making the best decisions for our students and community!"
Q: If you work or own a business in Winchester… what is it that you do and/or what is your business?
A: "I'm in the business of changing the world by ensuring a world class education for our Clark County Students and Families!!! I want our schools to teach our graduates skill sets so they are workforce ready by being college and/or career ready."
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Winchester?
A: "La Trattoria (I actually love going to many restaurants in the community)! I am kind of on a rotation between 20 different places..........."
Q: What are some of your favorite places to go in Winchester-Clark County?
A: "Any CCPS school extra curricular event. This includes our athletic events (at our world class athletic facilities) as well as our fine arts programing, plays, choir concerts, orchestra concerts, band concerts, JAG events, agriculture events, and etc. In the community I very much enjoy our local parks as well as events such as the labor day, Daniel Boone, and beer cheese festivals. "
Q: In what ways are you involved in the community?
A: "I am a member of the chamber of commerce, BCTC advisory board, Kiwanis club, fellowship of christian athletes, member of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and collaborate with local government agencies including the mayor, judge executive, industrial authority, fire departments, sheriff's department, police department, and parks and recreations."
Q: What, in your opinion, makes Winchester-Clark County a unique or special place to live?
A: "I believe in my heart that Winchester-Clark County is the perfect blend of small town connections with the flair of high quality of life activities, events, and entertainment."
Q: If you were going to introduce someone to Winchester-Clark County for the first time, what places, faces or activities would you tell them not to miss?
A: "I would probably first take them to one of many CCPS events such as a basketball game or RDC spring play!! Really all of our schools have events that are "not to miss". We have world class school facilities and are building a world class preschool in which we hope to offer universal preschool for all of our families here in Winchester-Clark County!"
